1980s STANLEY 9 1/2A Block Plane
An uncommon 1980s STANLEY 9 1/2A block plane.
STANLEY GB introduced the 9 1/2A, 60 1/2A and 220A block planes in the early 1980s however their production only lasted a few years.
The A series block planes had a patented lateral adjuster (UK Patent No.2046650A), an unusual side profile when compared to the more typical block planes and a unique lever cap locking mechanism.
This plane is marked '9 1/2A' on the left side.
Fitted with an English STANLEY 15/8 inch cutter marked 'STANLEY ENGLAND No. 9 1/2A/220A'.
The lateral adjuster is marked 'PATS PEND'.
'STANLEY ENGLAND' is cast into the bed.
As with the other 9 1/2 block planes, this plane has an adjustable mouth to allow for coarse or fine work.
Retains almost all of its original black finish.
Some minor surface pitting spots to the sole.
All parts move freely and tighten securely.
61/4 inches sole length.
An interesting and short lived STANLEY block plane.
