Low Knob American STANLEY No.4 Smoothing Plane - Type 11
A tidy early 20th century low knob American STANLEY No.4 smoothing plane, believed to be a type 11 circa 1910-18
Marked 'BAILEY No.4' at the toe with 'PAT'D MAR-25-02 AUG-19-02 APR-19-10' behind the frog.
Fitted with a good length 2 inch blade iron marked 'STANLEY RULE & LEVEL CO NEW BRITAIN. CONN. USA'.
Good rosewood handles, there is a hairline split near the base or the rear handle - please see close-up
Solid brass handle nuts.
Some surface knocks, scratches, pitting and staining spots.
We have left the 'patina' intact as we believe it adds to the overall honesty of this plane.
All parts move freely and tighten securely.
9 inch sole.
A nice example.
