Scarce Early RECORD 05 1/2 SS Stay Set Jack Plane
An early first example of the RECORD 05 1/2 SS Stay Set jack plane.
The first RECORD 05 1/2 planes were fitted with a 21/4 inch blade iron between 1931 and 1939 when they increased the width to 23/8 inches.
Fitted with a straight topped 21/4 inch RECORD best crucible cast tungsten steel blade iron and the extra thick Stay Set cap iron, marked 'PATENT No 362743', which enables sharpening of the blade without removing the cap iron and eliminates chatter.
Dismantled, cleaned, checked, oiled and reassembled.
This early example has the first pattern lateral lever with no markings and the revolving disc. First pattern frog, screws, Y lever and brass adjusting nut.
The lever cap is marked 'SS RECORD' and retains the majority of its red background finish to the lettered areas. Some minor plating loss.
Good rosewood handles, near complete original trade label on the top of the rear tote.
Usual signs of use with some surface scratches and staining but a tidy example of an early RECORD plane.
All parts move freely and tighten securely.
15 inches overall length.
