Unusual Registered Design Screwdriver - Marked 'WILL OPEN BOXES WITHOUT BENDING - REGD No.577195'
An unusual registered design screwdriver or turnscrew.
As we all know, screwdrivers are often used for tasks they were not designed for and it appears someone has taken this on board with this example.
Marked 'WILL OPEN BOXES WITHOUT BENDING' and 'REGD No 577195' on the blade shank.
This registered number dates the design to 1911 - 1912.
Beechwood handle with steel ferrule.
The shank appears to go through the handle and terminates in a, well used, strike cap on the top.
3/8 inch wide at the tip, 51/2 inch long blade, 101/8 inches overall.
Interesting and useful.
