Antique DRABBLE & SANDERSON 28 inch Rip Saw *SOLD*
A wonderful 28 inch rip cut panel saw by DRABBLE & SANDERSON of Sheffield.
Believed to date from the second half of the 19th century.
Shapely beechwood handle with four brass split-nut fixings. A few minor knocks and chips - please see close-up images
The 28 inch straight back blade is clean and straight with all teeth present and well formed. The blade has a smooth glossy finish although this has proved difficult to show in the photographs.
There are more teeth per inch over the first 5-6 inches from the toe, designed to enable easier starting. The rest of the blade has approximately 3 teeth per inch and is stamped 3/8 at the heel.
Full and clear 'DRABBLE & SANDERSON D SHEFFIELD WARRANTED CAST STEEL PATENT GROUND' blade etching.
The blade is 71/2 inches deep at the heel and 21/2 inches deep at the toe.
The nib is still in place where it should be.
A few minor surface pitting and staining spots,
Previous owner's stamps 'E.ISOM'.
Approximately 32 inches overall length.
