An antique 5/16 inch or 9mm curved carving gouge by Thomas SHAW of Sheffield.

Chisels by this maker are also found in the infamous 18th century Benjamin Seaton chest of cabinet makers tools.

Clearly marked 'T SHAW' to the top of the blade.

Not marked with a sweep number however this gouge is a good match to a London pattern No.9 sweep.

Good octagonal handle.

Previous owner's mark 'E.HOLLIS'.
