Boxwood Handled Scriveners Wheel *SOLD*
A nice antique scriveners' wheel.
Often mistaken for a stitching or pricking wheel but actually used by the legal profession when marking out and writing onto parchment.
This example has a shapely boxwood handle with simple line decoration, a few minor shrinkage cracks and staining spots.
The brass frame and wheel have a mixture of knurling and line decoration.
Marked '8' and 'IN' on opposite sides of the frame, the steel points are approximately 7/16 inch (10mm) apart.
51/4 inches (133mm) overall length.
A lovely object.
