A 3/8 inch or 10mm curved firmer gouge by RODGERS BROTHERS of Sheffield.

RODGERS BROTHERS was a short lived firm of Sheffield edge tool makers and the original owners of the well known John Bull trade mark.  The partnership lasted only 3 years ending in 1887 with the trade mark eventually being acquired by HEARNSHAW BROTHERS.

Marked 'RODGERS BROS CAST STEEL' on the top of the blade, there is also a part mark to the underside, possibly 'WARRANTED CAST STEEL'.

Very good boxwood handle with brass ferrule.

Previous owner's stamp 'J.E.ENGLAND'.
