George MILLER Gunmetal Shoulder Plane - for Restoration *SOLD*
A steel soled gunmetal infill shoulder plane restoration project.
Although unmarked, as many examples are, this style of heavy gunmetal shoulder plane with steel sole and its distinctive shape is typical of those produced by George MILLER of Grays Inn Road, London between 1890 and 1914.
This plane has obviously earned its keep but has the potential to be bought back to its former glory.
With ebony infill, a small piece has been replaced at some stage, please see close-up image.
The wedge, a probable replacement, appears to be walnut and is marked with a couple of previous owner's names.
MARPLES irons are typically found in MILLER planes and this MARPLES iron is very much at the end of its use.
The thick steel sole is good and the mouth tidy.
Various surface knocks and scratches, please see images.
715/16 inch sole length, 17/16" wide.
Certainly worth a little fettling.
