A very nice 1/4 inch or 7mm fishtail carving gouge by JH SARGENT.

Marked 'JH SARGENT' on both sides of the blade.

No sweep number but a good match to a London pattern No.54x9 sweep.

We do see carving tools by SARGENT occasionally but are struggling to identify where of when they were produced.

The spelling is the same as that of SARGENT & COMPANY USA, better known for their line of bench planes but also known to have offered other hand tools for wood workers and mechanics.

Very good octagonal hardwood handle, previous owner's stamps 'E.BROOKSBANK'  and 'J E D'.
