A very good 13/16 inch or 20mm wide mortice chisel by Alfred BECKETT & SONS of Sheffield.
Sometimes referred to as a pig sticker mortise chisel.
Marked 'A BECKETT & SONS SHEFFIELD' with the Matchless trade mark on one side of the blade with 'CAST STEEL' on the opposite side.
The blade flares from 5/8 inch wide at the bolster to 13/16" at the cutting edge.
A few minor surface pitting and staining spots, please see images.
Very good beechwood handle, there is a small split leading from the bolster but all is firm and secure, please see close-up image.
145/8 inches (372mm) overall length.
A scarce chisel in this size.
