A very little used, probably unused, LIE NIELSEN No 51 Shooting Plane or shoot board plane.

Currently unavailable from LIE NIELSEN either in the UK or USA.

LIE NIELSEN say:

'This single purpose plane is designed to trim mitres and other end grain on a shooting board.  The skewed cut is exceptionally effective.

Stanley first made its version in 1909.  We redesigned the body casting to use our standard 2-3/8" Bench Plane Blade and Frog with the Bedrock adjustment.'

Ductile iron body with manganese Bedrock type frog and lever cap.

Cherry wood handle.

Full length 2³/₈ inch blade with matching cap iron, the blade retains its original factory grind and appears to have never been honed, please see close-up images.

Original black finish remains throughout.

A few very minor surface spots, the soles have a glossy mirror finish which has proved difficult to show in the images.

All parts move freely and tighten securely.

A little over 9lbs or 4kg in weight.

Shoulder height of 2¹/₈ inches (54mm), 3⁹/₁₆" (90mm) wide, 15" (380mm) overall length.

In its original wooden box with screwed lid, packing spacers, trade mark and label.  Also dated August 2019.
