A very tidy and little used LIE NIELSEN No 4 Smoothing Plane.

Iron body with manganese Bedrock type frog and lever cap.

American cherry wood handles.

Near full length 2 inch blade with matching cap iron, 2¹/₁₆ inches remain below the slot.

The chip breaker or cap iron on this plane is the first pattern offered by LIE NIELSEN and very similar to those seen on vintage smoothing planes.  Current LIE NIELSEN planes have a thicker cap iron/chip breaker.

This plane retains almost all of its original finish throughout, please see images.

All parts move freely and tighten securely.
