A scarce and very little used 1 1/2 inch or 38mm MARPLES cranked bevel edge paring chisel.

Marked '1 1/2 in MARPLES SHEFFIELD ENGLAND 38.1mm' to the back of the blade.

Excellent boxwood handle with brass ferrule and almost all of the original lacquer finish.

The handle is marked with the former tool dealer's 'SARJENTS TOOLS' trade mark. Sarjents Tools of Reading, also known as Sarjents Tool Stores, had a history dating back to 1849 but have not been trading for some time.
