MARPLES Side Bead Moulding Plane - 1/2 inch
A little used boxed beechwood side bead moulding plane by MARPLES of Sheffield.
Clearly marked 'HIBERNIA WM MARPLES & SONS SHEFFIELD' with the Shamrock trade mark on the toe and stamped '1/2' on the heel.
Near full length blade iron and original wedge.

Double diamond plane hand's/maker's identification mark just behind the wedge mortice, believed to indicate that this plane was made by a member of the Bayliss family who worked in MARPLES Sheffield factory. MARPLES bought the plane making business of John MOSELEY in the late 19th century and offered moulding planes with either the MARPLES or MOSELEY marks, we have a MOSELEY side bead of similar style with the same double diamond mark which can be seen here.
