A scarce and little used 12 inch 'Special' brass back tenon saw by MARPLES.

Marked 'W MARPLES & SONS SHEFFIELD ENGLAND SPECIAL QUALITY' on the brass back.

Believed to be circa 1920 in date.

Very good beech wood London pattern handle with three brass split nut fixings.

The 12 inch blade is clean and straight with all teeth (approximately 13/14 teeth per inch) present and well formed.  It has a glossy finish which has proved difficult to show in the images.

Clear 'Special' blade etching.
