MATHIESON Try Plane - 22 inch

A very good 22 inch beechwood try or trying plane by MATHIESON of Glasgow.

Clearly marked 'A MATHIESON & SON GLASGOW BEST WARRANTED' with the Crescent & Star trade mark on the toe.

This plane is also stamped '17' just behind the wedge mortice, probably to identify the individual plane maker or hand.

Fitted with a good length 21/2 inch MATHIESON blade iron and matching cap iron, 23/16 inches remain below the slot.

A few minor surface knocks and scratches but in far better condition than most are found.

Previous owner's stamps 'J.WILD'.

37/16 inches wide 22" overall length.

A nice example.
