Ebony Infill Shoulder Plane - William PRESTON Iron
An antique shoulder plane with ebony infill.
Fitted with a 11/4 inch wide blade iron marked 'W PRESTON PENTONVILLE RD DURUS', some pitting and staining spots, please see images.
William PRESTON was listed as a Birmingham planemaker in the first half of the 19th century before moving to London in the 1850s and is thought to have had associations with Edward PRESTON & Sons of Birmingham.
The casting has a couple of minor issues, a small chip to the left corner of the mouth and a crack above the strike button on the heel, please see close-up images.
Nice ebony infill and wedge.
A few surface knocks and scratches.
No previous owner's stamps.
83/4 inch sole.
