A scarce 18th century 5/16 inch dado grooving or trenching plane by NELSON of York.

This plane has the (faint) uncommon 'NELSONS YORK' embossed mark to the toe.

Both the main and nicker blade irons are short having seen plenty of use.  The nicker iron came out in three pieces when we removed the wedge, one section is marked 'NEWB', the mark of Samuel NEWBOULD.
