NORRIS A5 Smoothing Plane
A tidy NORRIS A5 smoothing plane.
Believed to be an early post War example.
Marked 'NORRIS LONDON' on the lever cap and adjuster wheel.
The lacquered infill is pinned rather than screwed as in the later planes, much of the dark red/brown finish remains, please see close-up images.
There appears to be a dowel inserted through the base of the rear handle with signs of a hairline crack to the right side. This crack does not look to be deep and the dowel may well be intended to strengthen this part and prevent any further movement, please see images.
Raised 'domes' to either side of the throat to centre the blade iron.
The previous owner has fitted a replacement William Butcher 21/8 inch blade iron, 13/8 inches remain below the slot. The original cap iron is unmarked.
Some surface knocks, scratches, pitting and staining spots, please see images.
The adjuster is smooth and works well.
No obvious previous owner's marks.
75/8 inch sole length.
A good, honest example.
