A scarce pair of cranked firmer or scribing gouges by J FROST of Norwich.

We have seen very few of these gouges over the years and general opinion would suggest that they were intended for use by violin makers or luthiers.

The beech wood Kensington pattern handles are scarce in their own right and their shape adds value to the suggested use mentioned above.

Slightly cranked shallow in-cannel profiles, in sizes 1/2 and 7/8 inch.

Both are marked 'J FROST NORWICH' to the top of the blades.

The handles have brass ferrules and previous owner's marks of 'J.A.CONNOLY'.

9³/₄ and 10⁵/₈ inches (247-270mm) overall length.

Will require sharpening before use.
