A scarce EDWARD PRESTON gunmetal steel soled shoulder plane.

PRESTON offered three types of shoulder plane in their 1901 catalogue, a No.1351 malleable iron shoulder plane, a No.1352 gunmetal shoulder plane and a No.1353 gunmetal shoulder plane with steel face.

The No.1353 plane is not listed in the 1909 catalogue.

Very good ebony infill and wedge.

Fitted with the original (well used) 11/4 inch blade iron marked 'PRESTON TRADE MARK' with the EP mark.

The underside of the wedge and iron are stamped '1 s' and the bed is also stamped 'S'.  'A' stamped to the top of the iron, please see close-up images , 

Previous owner's marks 'S Q' and 'S.QUINNEY'.

A few surface knocks and scratches with some pitting spots to the sole.

81/8 inch sole length.

A very nice example of a hard to find PRESTON shoulder plane.
