A good 1/2 inch or 13mm straight carving gouge by James HOWARTH of Sheffield.

Marked 'J HOWARTH SHEFFIELD' with the JH Arrow trade mark on the blade.

Not marked with a sweep number however this gouge is a good match to a London pattern No.5 sweep.

Good beechwood handle with brass ferrule, two hairline cracks near the ferrle but all appears firm and secure, please see close-up images.

No previous owner's stamps.

A few very minor surface staining spots, please see images.

95/8 inches (244mm) overall length.
