STANLEY No 4 1/2 Smoothing Plane - War Production
A good STANLEY 41/2 smoothing plane.
This example has very thick sides and may well be WW2 production.
Dismantled, cleaned, checked, oiled and reassembled.
Fitted with a good length flat top 23/8 inch English STANLEY blade iron with matching cap iron, a little over 17/16 inches remains below the slot.
Very good hardwood handles with patches of the original lacquer finish.
Retains the majority of its original black finish.
The frog adjuster screw and plate have no nickel plating and retain their 'blued' finish, another indicator that this plane was produced during WW2 when the use of nickle was restricted.
Small chip to the lower edge of the lever cap, please see close-up images.
A few minor surface knocks, scratches, pitting and staining spots, please see images.
All parts move freely and tighten securely.
105/16 inches overall length.
