Very Large Charnley Forest Oilstone - Razor Hone
A wonderful example of a large natural Charnley Forest sharpening stone.
Found on a farm in southern Leicestershire so this stone has not moved far from its original source.
Almost 121/2 inches (315mm) long by 13/4" (45mm) at its widest point.
11/2" (38mm) deep at its thickest part.
Total weight of 2lb 12oz (1256g).
Typical green colour with red/brown patches.
Flat and smooth glass-like top surface, the last two images show water on the surface.
Patches of the original surrounding rock remain on the sides of this Charnley Forest stone, please see images.
A very large and fine example.
