War Production STANLEY No 4 Smoothing Plane with Broad Arrow Mark *SOLD*
A tidy and scarce WW2 production STANLEY No.4 smoothing plane.
Dismantled, cleaned, checked, oiled and reassembled.
Fitted with a good length 2 inch English STANLEY flat top blade iron and matching cap iron, a little under 17/8 inches remain below the slot.
The back of the iron is stamped '1944' with the military Broad Arrow mark.
Retains the majority of its original black finish throughout.
The war finish planes did not have nickle plated parts and this can be clearly seen on the lever cap which has almost all of its original orange background to the STANLEY trade mark but no sign of nickle plating.
Patches of the original 'blued' finish remain on the plate that fits over the frog adjusting screw, please see close-up image.
Good hardwood handles retain much of their original dark lacquer finish, there are a few marks to the top of the rear handle, believed to be intentional rather than accidental, please see close-up image.
A few minor surface knocks, scratches, pitting and staining spots, please see images.
All parts move freely and tighten securely.
93/8 inches overall length.
