An 18th century moulding plane by Joseph HOWEL of London, circa 1770.
Clear embossed mark 'HOWEL' to the toe.
Stamped '8' on the heel.
The profile appears to be an altered No.8 round.
Fitted with a good length HILDICK blade iron and wonderfully shaped original wedge, There is a part thickness split to the neck section below the finial, please see close-up image.
Previous owner's stamps 'W PEEK'.
Some surface knocks and scratches, please see images.
