3 NORRIS Planes
A group of three same owner NORRIS planes, some of the finest examples to appear.
Originally purchased new in the 1930s, used briefly and then put into storage until recently.
The largest is a rare 25 1/2 inch NORRIS A1 dovetailed steel jointing plane.
Toe and heel extensions, rosewood infill, 1922 patent adjuster and fitted with a near full length 2 1/2 inch parallel iron.
Apart from a few name stamps to identify the previous owner, this and the other two planes retain almost all of their original lacquer finish throughout.
The next in the group is possibly the most recognisable, a NORRIS A5 adjustable dovetailed steel smoothing plane.
As with the jointing plane above, this A5 has its original near full length (21/8") parallel iron and the 1922 patent adjuster.
Stamped 'STEEL' to the toe (as is the A1 above) and with almost all of its original finish throughout.
The smallest plane is perhaps the rarest in this group of three.
A NORRIS No.A27 adjustable gunmetal steel faced bullnose plane, rarer still as this is the widest (11/4") size offered by NORRIS.
1922 adjuster with ebony wedge, the iron on this plane has only been lightly honed.
And if that wasn't enough, it comes in its original card box with near full trade label!
All three are as original as you will find, no refinished infills or polished metalwork. Flecks of the packing grease can still be seen in the knurling of the A27's adjuster wheel.
Wonderful!
Enjoy the photos.
