A wonderful oversize brass plated ebony try square by Robert Marples of Sheffield.

This unique square was discovered in 2017 and is now part of a private collection.

The blued blade is 3 foot in length and ornately etched over is entire front surface.

As usual with any item of this rarity it has raised many different opinions as to whether it was produced for an exhibition, commission or perhaps to hang in the board room?

Whatever the truth, it is a fantastic example of Sheffield craftsmanship which cannot fail to impress.
