A large 1 1/2 inch or 38mm in-cannel paring gouge by JOHN HARRISON by JOHN HARRISON & SONS.

Marked 'J HARRISON WARRANTED' with the I H trade mark to the top of the blade with cast steel to the underside.

There were two JOHN HARRISON & SONS active in the 19th century, one in Sheffield, the other in Dronfield.  Both produced various types of edge tools and both used the I H trade mark making it difficult for us to verify which produced this gouge.

The blades flares slightly from 1 3/8" at he shoulders to 1 /1/2" at the cutting edge.

Very good ash handle with steel ferrule.

No previous owner's stamps.

16⁷/₈ inches (429mm) overall length.

May require sharpening/honing before use.
