Add To Your WishlistUnusual Heavy Antique Mitre Plane

An interesting cast mitre plane with brass bridge.

This plane has an unusual and heavy casting.

The extended toe and heel sections are stepped in from the sides, a feature that we have only seen once before with both examples being found in West Yorkshire, please see images.

At 6lb 81/2 oz or 2964g, this is a heavy plane.

Mahogany front infill with integral knob and unusual wedge/closed handle.  The handle section has a few old repairs including one to the top spur or horn.

Tidy mouth.

Fitted with a good length 23/8 inch C F JOHNSON slightly tapered cast steel blade iron.

A piece of card has previously been fitted on the bed, most likely used to ensure a good fit between the wedge and iron.

Previous owner's stamp 'F MEGGITT'.

Only lightly cleaned to retain the dark patina.

93/4 inches (248mm) overall length.

An interesting and unusual example, please see all images.
