A rare and very crisp 5/8 inch boxed side bead moulding plane by Thomas HEWITT of Manchester, circa 1843 - 1852.

Marked 'T HEWITT MANCHESTER' to the toe and stamped '5' on the heel.

Also stamped 'W D' to the toe, this may be the War Department mark although we can find no Broad Arrow stamp.

Good length blade iron with original wedge.
