A rare double ended ebony cutting or slitting gauge for straight and curved work by DAVID FLATHER & SONS of Sheffield.

The oval head stock is fully brass plated on both sides, one flat, the other convex to allow for curved work.

Faintly marked 'D FLATHER & SONS SOLLY WORKS SHEFFIELD' to one side of the head.  We have included a black and white image to make the mark a little more legible.

Each end of the stock is fully brass bound, stamped '5' to one end.

The cutter and securing pressure plate can be moved to either end allowing the user to switch from straight to curved work without removing the head stock.
