A rare FENTON & MARSDEN Registered Pattern 970 Mortice Gauge.
The brass button on the ebony head stock reads 'FENTON & MARSDEN 970 REGD FEB 19 1847'.
The brass stem is made up of two brass tubes which fit one inside the other. The top screw adjusts the pins and the lower screw effectively adjusts one of the brass tubes inside the other allowing movement of the head stock.
Previous owner's stamps 'R.LAW' and 'J.HEAP'.
Some knocks and scratches.
All parts move freely.
83/4 inches overall length.
