A nice ogee profile moulding plane by JOHN GREEN of York.

This moulding plane has the rarest of the embossed JOHN GREEN maker's marks, 'J.G.YORK', stamped on the toe.

It is thought that this mark was only used for a matter of weeks before it was replaced with one of the more usual 'JOHN GREEN' marks.  Further information can be found in the excellent book - JOHN GREEN 18th Century York Planemaker - by Peter Young.

Also stamped '3' on the heel.

Fitted with a good length NEWBOULD blade iron and original wedge.

Previous owner's mark 'JRF' to the toe.

97/16 inches overall length.

A very good example of a very rare plane.
