A very nice scarce early American STANLEY 6 inch machinist's spirit level.
Believed to be a STANLEY No.39 machinist's level, manufactured between 1877 - 1897 and replaced by the No.391/2 level in 1898.
Apparently listed but never illustrated in the STANLEY catalogues.
Ornate filigreed sides to the cast iron body, much of the original black japanned background finish remains.
Brass top plate marked 'STANLEY RULE & LEVEL CO'.
The clear bubble tube is intact.
11/16 inches wide, 3/4" deep.
57/8 inches overall length.
A fine and rare example.
