A scarce and very good 2 foot 2 fold Vulcan joint boxwood rule with brass slide by RABONE of Birmingham.

Believed to be a No.2412 rule.

The attractive Vulcan joint is accompanied by the registered design diamond mark, which refers to the date of 13th October 1869, and the Vulcan (Roman God of fire, metalwork and the forge) trade mark.

Marked 'JOHN RABONE & SONS BIRMINGHAM WARRAND BEST BOX'.

Various hand marked scales including 8 square line and Gunter's line.

Brass bitted pin holes, degrees on the joint, one bevelled edge and brass tipped ends.

Both brass locating pins remain.

Faint previous owner's mark 'R.NORDON' to one side.

A nice and hard to find example.
