A rare pair of 18th century graduated wide quirk ogee profile moulding planes by Robert BLOXHAM of Banbury, circa 1746 - 1778.
BLOXHAM is known for his unique style of planes with many having rounded tops and toes. This pair are unusual as they do not follow the normal rounded style of BLOXHAM planes.
Both have very clear embossed 'R BLOXHAM' marks to the toes.
Wonderfully shaped wedge finials.
Deep shoulder profiles with sweeping gouge cuts.
Both have good length blade irons (a few surface pitting and staining spots) and original wedges. The wedges have been hand marked with 'Oge' and the relevant size, please see close-up images.
Seven old, treated and wax filled, worm exit holes on the smaller plane.
Various old fence fixing holes to the left of each sole.
Previous owner's stamps 'I:CLARK'.
911/16 inches overall length.
A few surface knocks and scratches but both planes are in excellent condition considering their circa 250 year age.
