A scarce 19/16 inch pattern makers' long strong spoon gouge or paring gouge by MARPLES of Sheffield.
These specialist gouges have elongated shanks to allow easier access.
Marked 'W.MARPLES & SONS CAST STEEL' with the Shamrock trade mark on the shank.
The gouge blade is 63/4 inches long from the shoulders to the cutting edge and the shank is 61/2 inches to the bolster.
Very good boxwood handle with brass ferrule.
No previous owner's stamps.
187/8 inches overall length.
