An interesting 5/8 inch wooden square rebate plane by William SHORT of London.

Marked 'W SHORT 195 ESSEX RD' to the toe.

SHORT is listed as a toolmaker and dealer in BPM and we do know of at least one panel plane with the same mark.

This beechwood rebate plane is unusual in that it has brass plates to both sides of the stock, this may have been to strengthen the stock at this perceived 'weak' point and certainly adds heft as this plane weighs almost 1lb or 446g.

Whether the plates were added during manufacture or later we will never know but they have been carried out by skilled hands, please see images.

Good length blade iron.

Some surface knocks, scratches and old fixing holes.

No previous owner's stamps.
