Antique NELSON Jointer Plane with Offset Handle - 26 inch *SOLD*
A very good 26 inch beechwood try or trying, long or jointer plane by Richard NELSON of London.
The names of these long planes have varied over the years however a 26" plane would typically be referred to as a Long bench plane at the time of production.
Clearly marked 'R NELSON 122 EDGEWARE ROAD' on the toe dating this plane to between 1824 and 1852.
The rear handle is offset to the right side of the stock, please see close-up image.
Fitted with a near full length 25/8 inch WARD & PAYNE blade iron and matching IBBOTSON cap iron, 21/2 inches remain below the slot.
Great patina to the inside of the mouth and the closed handle.
A few minor surface knocks and scratches but in far better condition than a plane of this age is typically found.
No previous owner's stamps.
31/2 inches wide 26" overall length.
A nice example of a rare survivor.
