An unusual cast smoothing plane that we have not seen before.

The high sided casting is of a quality that suggests it was either a near final prototype plane or one that was actually put into production.

Apart from the wonderful floral cap screw one of the most interesting features of this plane is the fitting of the rear handle.

A dovetail slot is cast into the heel of the bed and the rear handle friction fits into this, please see images.

Both knob and handle are beech with its natural colour finish, the initials 'LR' are stamped into the top of both.

Fitted with a near full length 2 inch MARPLES blade iron and matching cap iron.

10¹/₂ inch sole length.
