A tidy and scarce 3114 malleable iron smoothing plane by MARPLES of Sheffield.

Marked 'W.MARPLES & SONS SHEFFIELD' with the Shamrock trade mark on the lever cap.

Fitted with a 2¹/₈ inch MARPLES parallel blade iron with matching cap iron.  1⁵/₈ inches remain blow the slot.

Gunmetal lever cap and screw.

Very good rosewood infill.

Some surface scratches, pitting and staining spots. The pitting spots are mainly to the front of the sole - please see close-up images

Faint previous owner's stamp 'S.ALLISTER' to the top of the front infill.
