A scarce pair of table joint moulding planes by Edward PRESTON of Birmingham.
Even rarer is they come complete with the original setting out gauge which is almost always missing.
Both planes have the early 'E PRESTON' within the serrated oval border to the toes.
Often confused with standard hollow and round moulding planes, table planes come in matched pairs and are used to cut the rule joint on drop leaf tables.
Salaman's Dictionary of Woodworking Tools provides an overview of their and the gauges use.
Fitted with good length blades irons and original wedges, some minor surface staining spots to the irons, please see images.
Previous owner's stamps 'W.MORBEY'.
The gauge measures 35/16 by 11/8 inches overall.
The planes are 97/16 inches overall length.
A hard to find pair of planes complete with their elusive gauge.
