A rare cast iron NORRIS No.14 C smoothing plane.

The No.14 smoothing planes were offered in cast iron, malleable/annealed iron and gunmetal.

Cast iron planes were more susceptible to damage and most of the No.14s that have survived in good condition are of malleable/annealed iron.

The cast iron planes were listed in the 1914 catalogue in blade iron widths of 2, 21/8 and 21/4 inches.

This 21/4 inch example has rosewood infill.

Marked 'NORRIS LONDON' on the gunmetal lever cap.

Fitted with a 21/4 inch parallel blade iron and matching cap iron by WARD & PAYNE, 11/4 inches remains below the slot.

The rosewood rear infill is stamped 'P' over '2' and the back of the cap iron is also stamped '2'.

Some minor scratches, pitting and staining spots.

Previous owner's marks 'G.T.DORE' and 'H.EDWARDS'.

75/16 inch sole.

A good example of a hard to find plane.
