A scarce early American STANLEY No 72 chamfer plane, believed to be a type 2 circa 1886 - 1904.

Marked 'STANLEY' on the left side of the main casting with 'No 72' on the right side.

The 15/8 inch cutter is marked 'STANLEY RULE & LEVEL CO PAT. APR.21.85'.  Some surface pitting and staining spots.

Rosewood rear tote handle and beaded front knob.  The bead line is faint but definitely there.

Brass 'faucet' type adjuster wheel.

Early japanned thumb screw on the lever cap.

Retains much of the original black finish.

All parts move freely and tighten securely.

83/4 inches overall length.

A good example of an early plane.
